Mock Exams and Art Central

Last week was Project Week (which there will be a separate blog post about), but the two weeks before Project Week were Mock Exams for the Second-years and for the First-years who have self-taught (aka Norwegian for Magnus and I). Mock exams went fine – music started randomly playing from the room next door when I was recording my mock oral exams. Apparently, that could be heard on the recording. Oops!

From now until the end of the school year, I think I’ll have to spend most of my time studying… For students applying to Oxbridge or doing early applications to the USA, second term grades and second term predicted grades are super-important. Time to get that IB45!!!

The SAS groups and the UWS group met up in the airport at Phnom Penh yesterday evening, as we were on the same flight back to Hong Kong. Before heading to Project Week, Sue (a family friend living in Hong Kong) offered me free tickets to Art Central, a weekend art exhibition taking place in Hong Kong this weekend… So this morning, Simran and I rolled out of bed and headed to pick up the tickets in Sheung Wan. Then we took a leisurely stroll down to the exhibition (of course we stopped at Marks and Spencers on the way – crumpets!!).

The exhibition was great – lots of very interesting contemporary art! We also attended a talk on the art of the Umbrella Revolution, and got stopped by a lady from Prague who talked for a while about the gallery she worked with, which was planning on expanding and opening another gallery in Hong Kong this autumn. Simran spent a couple of hours at the fair, looking at different pieces, before we wandered over to the IFC and ate lunch on the roof. Now we’re back at campus – freaking out about all the school-work that has to be done over the next few days, and wondering at how fast the school year has gone by – less than 75 days until the second-years graduate!!!

Some of my favourite pieces from Art Central:

"Light - Strings" by Shi Jindian. Made from coloured stainless steel wire.

"An Aggregation 201301" by Seon-Ghi Bahk. Charcoal and nylon threads.

In other news – my new firsties had their interviews last week! They should be finding out if and where they’ve been accepted at some point next week. Can’t wait!
